A Downtown Fairhope Engagement
Brooke, Geoffrey and I all have something in common. All three of us went to McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and Spring Hill College. I just love when I get the opportunity to work with a fellow McT alum and it’s even better when they’re also a fellow Badger! I also love a good proposal story and these high school sweethearts have a great one!
It all started with a trip to Boston to visit Geoffrey’s sister. The last day of the trip, Brooke and Geoffrey took a drive up to Rhode Island. After a wonderful day spent touring historic mansions and a vineyard, they headed back to Boston. Geoffrey suggested they all take a walk at a park near his sister’s apartment. Then his sister just happened to run into her old roommate, who also happens to be a photographer. While his sister was chatting with her old roommate, Geoffrey led Brooke to a clearing that was surrounded by trees. Before she knew it, Geoffrey was down on one knee, asking her to be his wife! His sister’s former roommate captured the whole thing on camera!
Geoffrey had coordinated the whole plan and it worked out perfectly! How sweet is that?! After the shoot, they got to do an engagement session in Boston. I love that since their Boston session was in the fall that we were able to do this session in the spring! I recommend doing an engagement session with your wedding photographer whether or not you’ve already had engagement photos taken by someone else. It’s so wonderful to get to know the person who will be by your side on one of the most important days of your life. As a photographer, I feel it’s important for me to get to know my couples ahead of the big day because it helps everyone relax. Plus, I just adore my couples so spending time with them at the engagement session is a treat!
Downtown Fairhope is always beautiful, but it is especially gorgeous in the spring. We had the most gorgeous weather the day of this session! We literally couldn’t stop talking about it! The humidity was low and there was a gentle breeze in town. Once we made our way down to the water, the breeze was definitely not gentle, but I love that it made for some dramatic portraits! Oh, and you won’t believe what happened in the middle of this session! We nearly walked right into the middle of a proposal. Scroll down for more on that story!
Brooke and Geoffrey, I can’t wait to work with you again on your wedding day this fall! It’s going to be fabulous!
These two were such naturals in front of the camera and just look at this dreamy light!
This photo was hard to get because of all the traffic, but it was worth the effort!
After taking some portraits in downtown, we hurried down to the water for some sunset photos. We were walking up to this spot that I love when I noticed a photographer with a very large lens off to my left. I looked at her for a minute and then followed her gaze. My first thought was that she was photographing wildlife because the lens was so huge. Then, my eyes landed on a young couple standing under the massive oaks that line the sidewalk. “Oh my goodness, they just got engaged,” was all I could think.
Brooke and Geoffrey had also noticed the couple. We all stopped as soon as we realized what was happening. I’ve photographed many engagement sessions in Fairhope, but have never witnessed a proposal while shooting there before. I’m so glad we noticed what was happening before we walked into the path of the camera! I’m sure it took Brooke and Geoffrey right back to their proposal moment in Boston!
Brooke and Geoffrey are working with Lydia Noble Events to plan their special day.
