A Downtown Mobile Wedding
I have known David since he was born, so to see him all grown up and married seems surreal! His parents and mine have been friends my entire life. They’re the kind of friends that have always felt like extended family. I was looking forward to working with him and Michelle at their May wedding. The day we did their engagement session, a pandemic was no where on the horizon. I could hear the disappointment in their voices the day they called to tell me they had made the decision to postpone their spring wedding. It was a sad time for so many couples, especially those who had to postpone when they were already so close to their wedding dates!
Thankfully, David and Michelle were able to find a new date that worked for most of their vendors. I knew these two had hoped for a spring wedding largely due to the weather being not so hot that time of year. When Hurricane Sally rolled through our area just two weeks before their wedding day, I started saying extra prayers for a beautiful wedding day for these two. The original forecast for this day was full of rain, but that’s Mobile for ya!
When the day finally arrived, we had absolutely gorgeous weather and skies were rain free. On top of that, I was so happy to see that Spanish Plaza, one of our beautiful squares in downtown Mobile, did not suffer the same level of destruction as Bienville Square. Most of the trees in this park were spared. David almost proposed to Michelle in this park because they both love it so much. It was a big part of our portrait plan for wedding day. I’m so glad most of its oaks were still standing tall!
A Malaga Inn Reception
From the beginning of planning their day, David and Michelle chose to not have a traditional bridal party. Their best friends were still part of their day though, with Michelle’s friends helping her get ready and David’s friends hanging out with him until it was time for his First Look with his bride. When I went to get David for the First Look, he was already on the verge of tears. It was the sweetest!
After an intimate wedding ceremony with just their families and closest friends present, everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner by Naman’s Catering under the city lights at the Malaga Inn Courtyard. While it was a bit warmer than it likely would have been in early May, it was still a much cooler evening than we’ve had in a long time. When I first walked into the courtyard, I immediately knew I wanted to take a portrait of Michelle and David in that setting. I love that they were just as excited about the idea as I was! I don’t often get to incorporate nighttime portraits into wedding days, but I love doing them when I have the opportunity. They’re like the icing on top of the cake!
I wear my mask all day on wedding days, but took it off briefly for a picture with the bride and groom, as well as David’s parents (who I adore!).
