It’s turkey time! I love all holidays, but I seriously love Thanksgiving. I love the special foods we make only for that one special day. I love the smells that waft out of the kitchen. I love that we have a huge pot luck meal and always have basically the same menu, except for the desserts (we’re liberal when it comes to desserts). Turkey, sweet potato casserole, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce straight from the can and deviled eggs. Someone usually brings a salad, to keep it healthy and all (wink, wink). 🙂

Last year I shared the photo below, which features the sweet potato casserole and cornbread dressing that my mom makes every year. She got the sweet potato casserole recipe from a family friend years ago and it has become a tradition for our family. We don’t do the marshmallows on the top, as many southerners do. We prefer the pecan/brown sugar topping. I swear, that stuff is like a dessert, but like I said, we’re liberal when it comes to desserts (and we always have plenty).

Seriously, this was our dessert spread in 2011! I think each family brought multiple desserts. It was awesome, but I wouldn’t have wanted our blood sugar checked after that meal! YIKES!!! At least we had something to suit every craving. Chocolate dessert…check! Lemon dessert…check! Pumpkin dessert…check! We covered all the bases! 🙂

So as turkey day approaches, I’m in a conundrum over what dessert to bring this year. Sometimes I get so excited about trying new desserts that I go overboard (hence the spread of sweets in the photo above). This year I’m going to try to stick to making one dessert (okay…maybe two). 🙂 Here are the contenders:

Pumpkin Crunch Cake

Outrageous Brownies

Apple Cake (a recipe my mom got from a family friend years ago)

Ginger Snap Pumpkin Pie

Mocha Chocolate Icebox Cake
