Session Preview
To say that the engagement session I did for my cousin, Amber, and her fiance, Luke, was a total blast would be a complete understatement. First, these two are ridiculously fun to be around. Second, their cheerful nature is simply infectious. I think we all knew Luke was going to be around for the long haul when we first met him. It’s actually hard to remember not knowing Luke; he just fit into our family from day one. Amber and Luke compliment each other so well and it was an honor to capture their contagious joy for their engagement portraits.
When we started planning their session, we knew we were going to go for a fall theme, as it’s Amber and Luke’s favorite time of year. Together, we brainstormed locations. Amber and Luke first met at Camp Beckwith where they worked as camp counselors. They later got engaged at the Camp Beckwith pier, so it was a natural location for their session. I thought it would be a perfect place for the portraits, but Amber and Luke were worried the location didn’t have enough to offer. I hadn’t been to Beckwith in years, so we drove over one Sunday to check it out. As soon as we pulled down the drive, I knew Beckwith was going to be an amazing location. I saw so many possibilities for photographs in my mind! The one thing Beckwith lacked was the autumnal feel that Amber and Luke really wanted for some of their portraits, so we started searching for a second location. We happily stumbled upon Magnolia Corn Maze and made plans to use both locations for the shoot.
Our plan couldn’t have turned out better. At Magnolia we found the perfect harvest time setting, complete with a wagon, pumpkins and bales of hay. All we had to add was the Save the Date banner. The folks at Magnolia were so awesome in letting us roam their property. I am still in awe of their gorgeous patch of zinnias! After we finished up at Magnolia, we headed over to Beckwith. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better day for the session weather wise; the water and sky were gorgeous and the light was perfect. Best of all, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. To give some of their portraits a campy feel, we ended the shoot with a s’mores and hot chocolate series of photographs. I have a lot of favorite images from this session (as you’ll see below), but I *think* the s’mores series might be my absolute favorites from this session. If it wasn’t for the bugs chasing us out at the very end, I probably would have had a hard time leaving Beckwith. I know I could have eaten another s’more (or two). 🙂
For those that follow the blog regularly, you’ll remember I shared a few sneak peeks from this session several weeks back. I am so excited to share the rest of the portraits from their session now that their Save the Dates have gone out. Amber and Luke, I am so looking forward to your wedding in May! It will be here before we know it! Enjoy!
