A Downtown Mobile Engagement

David’s parents and my parents have been friends since before we were born. His dad and my mom went through RCIA together at Holy Family Catholic Church. They’re the type of family friends that feel like family. I remember David, who is close to my sister’s age, when he was a little boy. I remember how proud my Pop was when we found out David had made it into the University of Alabama’s Million Dollar band. The day he visited Pop in the nursing home wearing his uniform is one that my family fondly remembers. My dad still has the photo of that day in his office.

I remember the first time that David’s mom told us about Michelle. I could tell she was overjoyed that David and Michelle had found one another. When I finally met her, I could tell right away that she and David were meant for each other. It is always an honor to photograph a wedding, but there is something extra special about photographing a wedding for those you know well. I was so excited when David and Michelle asked me to be their wedding photographer. It is going to be so much fun celebrating with them on wedding day!

A Surprise Proposal

David has always been a kind-hearted and thoughtful guy, so I knew he would plan a sweet proposal for Michelle. In fact, he let me in on the surprise a bit early one Sunday after Mass! Photographers are good secret keepers in case you’re wondering.

Even though she and David had been ring browsing together, the weekend he proposed, Michelle thought they were just going to the beach to hang out with friends. Before the group headed out to dinner that night, David suggested they take a photo on the balcony. Michelle wasn’t suspicious at all. It wasn’t until she turned around and saw David down on one knee that she realized what was happening. The minute Michelle said yes, their friends popped out the champagne and confetti. Then they all went out to dinner to celebrate!

When David let me know the engagement was official, joy was just radiating from him. I have been so excited to get these two in front of my camera since the day we first sat down for their consult. Enjoy my favorites from their downtown Mobile engagement session!

Michelle and David met for the first time at Alchemy in downtown Mobile, so we stopped to take a few photos outside as we made our way to Cathedral Square. I love that this spot is tied to their love story!
