A Bragg-Mitchell Mansion Engagement
I have known Katie’s mom for a long time. In fact, Katie’s grandmother and my grandmother were longtime friends. Since Katie’s grandmother passed away many years ago, I never got to meet her, but I always knew of my Memaw’s dear friend and that their friendship was one my grandmother treasured. How crazy it is that all these years later I find myself working with Katie and her fiance, Matthew, as their wedding photographer!
Katie and Matthew are getting married at the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion one month from tomorrow! I always say it’s never too late for an engagement session as long as it’s sometime before the wedding and that really is the truth! I was so glad that Katie, Matthew and I were able to align our schedules on this beautiful October afternoon. Y’all, we had some magical Golden Hour light on this day! Dreamy light plus the oak trees at the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is always a favorite of mine!
One thing that is nice about doing your engagement session at the same location where your wedding will be is that it lets you talk through the plan of the day while you’re walking around the property. While we were at the Bragg for this shoot, we started chatting about the ceremony location and the timeline for the wedding day. Katie and Matthew were originally planning to have their ceremony on the front porch, but as we discussed the timing for portraits, lighting, etc., it became clear that the side lawn was the best option for the ceremony. If we hadn’t met up at this particular location, we may have not had the opportunity to chat through the logistics in this way.
It seems hard to believe that we are winding down the year and that there are only a few weddings left on my calendar for 2021! The next few weeks are going to be quite busy, but I’m excited for all these cool-weather weddings!
