A Downtown Mobile Engagement Session

Joey asked Kelly to marry him on the steps of the church where they will exchange vows this spring. It’s the same church where he grew up and where his parents were married. His grandmother was also a founding member! The ring Joey presented to Kelly was from his family’s jewelry shop, Gold Art. It’s not every day that the groom has such an in with the jeweler! The first time I talked with Kelly, I could immediately tell that she and Joey are sentimental, value family and tradition. I knew I was going to love working with them.

When we first talked about what Kelly wanted her wedding day to feel like, I could tell that in addition to being sentimental, these two also like to have a good time. I was so excited when she told me that she has one of my favorite bands playing at her reception and that there will be a huge dance party outside under the stars outside the Mobile Carnival Museum. I’m already picturing it in my mind and I can’t wait!

A Blustery Winter Day

It was a blustery day in downtown Mobile when I met up with Kelly and Joey for their engagement session! We are spoiled in the Deep South with pretty mild winters, but this day was so cold! Kelly, Joey and I agreed that being cold was much better than being too hot and sweaty – as is the case with our weather most of the year.

Kelly’s mom was so sweet to bring Kelly and Joey’s puppy for some portraits at the start of their session. I think their pup, Carly, was super excited about the cold weather and the new environment. She was a bundle of energy, but we still managed to get her to sit still for a few shots and those turned out to be some of my favorites from the shoot!

Kelly used to work at a wedding venue in town. In fact, her first wedding at the venue was one that I was photographing! During the shoot, I discovered that Joey’s cousin was a former high school classmate of mine and, ironically, I ran into him at the same wedding that was Kelly’s first wedding to work at the wedding venue. If that’s not a classic Mobile story for you, I don’t know what is. Clearly, Kelly and Joey were destined to be one of my couples! Enjoy my favorites from their winter engagement session in downtown Mobile.
