A St. Joseph Chapel Wedding
It rained the day of Kaitlyn and Robbie’s engagement session and the day that I took Kaitlyn’s bridal portraits. For both sessions, Kaitlyn was a total trooper, trusting that we would get beautiful portraits despite the weather challenges. I loved that she didn’t let the rain dampen her spirits, but I prayed hard that she would have beautiful weather on her wedding day because I know how much she loves photos. A few days before the wedding, the weather forecast showed a 40 percent chance of rain and I really prayed the meteorologists had this one wrong.
When wedding day arrived and the sky was blue with puffy clouds, I felt optimistic. Just after Kaitlyn put on her wedding dress her mom commented that it had turned out to be a beautiful day. Both Kaitlyn and I were like, “don’t jinx it!” I think we were both holding our breath on the weather until we got through portrait time! I am happy to say that it was indeed a beautiful spring day from beginning to end! Kaitlyn finally got some Golden Hour glow! Yay!!!
Kaitlyn and Robbie are such a joyful couple and spending this day with them was just a delight. Everything flowed so smoothly from beginning to end. I am still obsessed with Kaitlyn’s gorgeous wedding gown, but I also love that once party dancing started at the reception that she changed into her grandmother’s wedding dress, which she’d had redone specifically for her wedding. Fun fact, Kaitlyn’s mom also wore this dress on her wedding day. Talk about a treasure and a wonderful way to remember her late grandmother with whom Kaitlyn had a close relationship.
A Byrne Memorial Hall Reception
It’s often tricky to incorporate the many pretty portrait spots on campus at Spring Hill College into one wedding day. The campus isn’t super huge, but there isn’t always a direct path to get from point A to point B. I loved that Kaitlyn and Robbie had their reception at Byrne Memorial Hall, which is in the center of campus, because it meant that could serve as a home base for bridal party and family members during portrait time.
Before the wedding, Kaitlyn and I discussed stopping by the golf course for a few portraits after the ceremony, before heading to the reception. As luck would have it, everything timed out perfectly and we got to the spot at the best time of the day for soft, romantic lighting. When you’re dealing with natural light and Mother Nature, there is always an element of unknown. You can plan and you can hope, but you never know until the day comes if the timing will all fall into place and if the weather will cooperate. As we walked up to the edge of the golf course, I knew everything had fallen into place perfectly and these turned out to be some of my favorite portraits of the day!
I love this photo of Robbie’s mom sewing his button back on his jacket!
