Bayside Family Portraits | Daphne, AL

I love meeting and working with new families! When Allison contacted me for a portrait session for her family, I literally had one date left on my calendar for fall portrait sessions. One date. With her oldest son away at college and her other two sons busy with multiple school activities, combined with Allison and her husband having busy schedules, it was not easy for her to find a date where everyone in her family was available for a portrait session. Luckily, the stars aligned and the only date I had open worked for the whole family. We marked the date on our respective calendars and I prayed that we would not get rained out because rescheduling would be tricky.

We decided to shoot at Bayfront Park in Daphne because of the close proximity to work and after school activities. I have loved the weddings I’ve done at the park, so I thought it would be a perfect location for a portrait session. I arrived a little early to give myself time to explore some new areas I hadn’t shot in before and I’m so glad I did. I made friends with a nice lady, Cindy, who was walking the boardwalk area for exercise and I asked her about the trail. She not only told me about a great spot for pictures, she also walked me down to where the area was to make sure I knew which turn to take on the trail! I am still so thankful to her for going out of her way for someone she didn’t even know!

I was so glad the Hixson family was up for a little walk to get to the spot Cindy showed me. The spot was a hidden beach area just off the path that is covered with trees. It was so peaceful by the water and the beach setting really gave that coastal Christmas feel to the portraits that Allison was wanting for her Christmas card photos. I also loved that the beach area was so close to an area with trees because it allowed for two totally different backgrounds at the same location. We shot the first half of the session in the boardwalk area while the sun was still higher in the sky and the second half on the beach at sunset when the light was lower in the sky and softer. I think this might be a new favorite location for me! Enjoy this preview of the Hixson family’s session!

Now is the time to contact me for spring portrait sessions! Dates will go FAST!
