A Downtown Mobile Engagement
I stepped out of the car and into the fierce wind that was whipping through downtown Mobile. My hair immediately swirled in front of my face and I struggled to contain it into a neat ponytail. The chill in the air seemed to have arrived so suddenly. Wasn’t it in the 70s just the day or so before? I always say that our weather can turn on a dime and it’s so true!
Doing a portrait session on a windy day reminds me of what it’s like to play a windy tennis match. It’s definitely trickier than an average shoot because you have to figure out how to work with the wind. If you try to fight it, you’ll lose every single time. Normally I select a spot first for lighting and second for location. On windy days, I select for lighting, wind and then location. It’s all about figuring out which way blows the hair away from the face!
So there I was standing in Bienville Square waiting for Resi and Jacob to arrive and trying to think about what spots would be buffered on such a blustery day. I had a few in mind and, thankfully, Resi and Jacob are the most laid back couple so they were game for following me to spots that I knew would give us a reprieve from the wind gusts. To get to those spots we had to walk through several windy areas though! These two were total troopers the whole time! I was so glad that they agreed with me that a cool wind was better than a hot, humid day!
This session marks my last engagement shoot of 2019 and it was a great one to end on! Resi and Jacob, thank you so much for choosing me to be your wedding photographer! I know we’re going to have so much fun on wedding day this spring!
