An Oak Hollow Farm Proposal | Fairhope, AL

When Sam contacted me to schedule a portrait session, he told me he was planning a surprise for his girlfriend Ashley. The pictures were not the surprise. The surprise was a proposal! YAY!!! I could barely contain my excitement. Sam and I hatched a plan to put the session together so that Ashley wouldn’t get suspicious. She’d been wanting to do a portrait session with Sam for a while, so knowing they were having pictures taken didn’t make her suspicious that there would be a surprise. What Ashley didn’t know was that Sam was carrying a ring in his pocket for the first half of their session! The suspense was killing me!

I LOVE capturing fleeting moments for my clients and, honestly, it doesn’t get much better than a surprise proposal! We decided to do the session at Oak Hollow Farm because both Sam and Ashley have worked there before and Ashley’s mom currently works at the farm and is friends with the owners. We were guaranteed a private area for shooting and for the surprise.

The day could not have been more perfect. I started the session like a normal portrait session to get things going so Ashley wouldn’t be suspicious. Sam and I had planned for him to pop the question once we were in the beautiful tree tunnel area of the farm. If you’ve seen pictures of wedding ceremonies at Oak Hollow, this is where the ceremonies are usually set up. As we walked into that area we saw a wooden cross set up in the center of the tunnel. It had been left behind from a wedding the previous weekend. The cross ended up making the perfect backdrop for their proposal moment and I took it as a sign of a blessing from above for Sam and Ashley. Tears sprang from Ashley’s eyes and her sweet smile was radiant as Sam got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. I even had tears in my eyes as I was taking the photos. It was such a special moment!!!

After bringing Ashley up to speed on how I knew the plan all along, we continued with their session as a regular engagement session. I had such a great time working with these two. They are so joyful! Enjoy this preview of their session and leave them some love in the comments below! <3
