A Beach Engagement | Dauphin Island, AL

It seemed so funny to be meeting Madeline in person for the first time at her engagement session because I truly felt like I already knew her so well from our phone and email conversations. She is just one of those people that you’ve felt like you’ve known forever from the first meeting. Nick is equally easy to talk to and very laid back. It was easy to see that these two were meant for each other from the very beginning of their session.

We had so much fun at their session getting to know each other and chatting about the details of their wedding, which will be at Spring Hill College in September. Nick and I are both Spring Hill grads and I’m so excited that he and Madeline are getting married on campus at St. Joseph’s Chapel. It’s truly one of my favorite churches in Mobile and such a beautiful setting for wedding portraits! Madeline is originally from Arkansas, but she and Nick wanted to get married in the city that they will call home and I think that is so very special.

Madeline told me they wanted a beach setting for their session so we decided to do their engagement portraits on Dauphin Island. I was so excited for them that we had the most perfect weather the day we’d scheduled their shoot, not too hot and not too humid, but sunny. I have always wanted to walk through the trail from the bird sanctuary to the beach, but have never felt confident about following the map (some might say I’m directionally challenged). Getting yourself and your clients lost in the middle of a session would definitely not be the best experience, so I’ve only ever been in as far as the small lake. Fortunately, Nick is an avid outdoorsman and was game for leading the way in exploring the trail further. I am so, so glad that we decided to give it a try because what awaited us on the other side of the trail was the most gorgeous light and a quiet beach! Aside from a small yoga class that was going on a few yards away, we had the area completely to ourselves and it was amazing!

I am so looking forward to Madeline and Nick’s wedding this fall! Be sure to leave them some love in the comments below and follow me on Facebook and Instagram for more from this session!
