Historic Malbis Nursery Wedding | Spanish Fort, AL

Sometimes, when I sit down with a bride and groom they give me such a detailed vision of their day that I can actually picture it in my mind. You can just feel from listening to them that the vision is going to come to life in the most beautiful way. It was exactly that way when I met with Rachel and Alex. These two, who fell in love at first sight, told me of their plans for an intimate ceremony with only immediate family in attendance, followed by a large reception. I knew it would be beautiful because they were so thoughtful with all their details.

When we did their engagement session a few months ago, I knew these two were going to totally rock their bride and groom portraits because they are just so natural in front of the camera. We had so much fun shooting together on that engagement session and it had me so excited to work with them again on their wedding day!!! Rachel was an absolutely gorgeous bride and Alex was a handsome groom. Their colorful florals brought a cheerfulness to their portraits, which matches their personalities so perfectly. I also loved that Rachel incorporated her Kentucky roots into the wedding favors! I also learned that bourbon and whisky are not quite the same thing and that the words “Jack Daniels” are best left unsaid around Kentucky folk. 😉

All bourbon/whiskey jokes aside, Rachel and Alex truly had the sweetest families and I could not have been more touched to see their parents and siblings pull together to clean up the reception area after a thunderstorm soaked the entire setup. They got out leaf-blowers, brooms and towels and the whole place looked amazing when they were finished. The only way guests could tell it had rained earlier was because the tablecloths remained a bit damp, but you can hardly tell in the photos that there was rain at all!!! Thankfully, the rain stopped just in time for the ceremony and we had clear skies for all portraits! I was SOOOOO thankful for this because the Historic Malbis Nursery is such a GORGEOUS location and I was so happy we got to take advantage of being there during portrait time!

Rachel and Alex, it was such an honor to photograph your wedding! I wish you many years of happiness together! Also, a special thank you to my awesome second shooter, Debby Faught, for not only helping with photography, but for being a master bustle assistant. You rock! 🙂
