A St. Mary’s Catholic Church Wedding
I typically sleep in on Saturday mornings. I start my day by watching Food Network and reviewing my wedding day info sheet while I drink coffee. It’s pretty routine for me to wrap up work at 10pm on Saturday nights. When I first met with Katie and her mom to chat about her wedding day, I realized that her wedding would be my first 11 o’clock ceremony wedding. I thought hard and couldn’t think of another morning wedding I’d photographed. The early ceremony time meant photography coverage would begin at 8 o’clock. I set two alarms for Saturday morning because I was worried I’d oversleep! I’m not a natural early riser, probably because I’m used to working so many late nights.
As much as I love sleeping in on most Saturdays, getting an early start has it’s advantages! Because the wedding reception was scheduled to end in the afternoon, it meant we could take some Golden Hour bride and groom portraits after the reception. I loved that Katie was game for this idea when I first presented it to her. Since she and J.R. decided to not share a First Look, having the extra time at the end of the day allowed them to get some extra bride and groom portraits! We were also able to go to some downtown Mobile locations we didn’t have time for earlier in the day.
I always love documenting sweet moments between parents and their children on wedding days. Katie told me before wedding day that she really wanted to share a First Look with her dad. But this First Look was unique. As usual, Katie’s dad was seeing her in her dress for the first time. But, he had a reveal of his own, a brand new military dress uniform. How sweet is that?!
I also loved photographing J.R. with his parents before the ceremony. J.R. is an only child and I could tell that he has a strong bond with his sweet parents. His dad was beaming with pride as he helped J.R. into his jacket and adjusted his tie. I was holding back tears as his mom pinned his boutonniere to his lapel. Their joy was contagious!
I’ve said before that I love a church wedding and Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama is one of my favorites! After a beautiful Nuptial Mass, everyone headed back downtown for lunch and dancing at the Athlestan Club. It was my first time to visit this beautiful club, but I certainly hope it’s not the last! I loved that this space had a classic ballroom vibe, while also having access to a view of Bienville Square. It was the best of both worlds! Enjoy my favorites from this lovely fall wedding and Happy Thanksgiving!
I was a second photographer at Erin and Christopher’s wedding a few years ago. If you’ve visited the home page of my website, they are the ones in the center photo with St. Joseph’s Chapel in the background. Even after a few years, this remains one of my all-time favorite bride and groom portraits! It was such fun running into them again at this wedding! I love how so many Spring Hill College alumni stay close long after graduation! Go Badgers!
Thanks to Mobile Pedicab, Katie and J.R. were able to meet me in Cathedral Square for some Golden Hour portraits. Afterwards, they continued their ride through downtown Mobile to their hotel.
