A St. Mary’s Catholic Church Wedding
We are used to tropical weather here in Mobile…but not in mid-March! When I saw there were Tropical Storm force winds in the forecast for Cara and Austin’s wedding, all I could think about was hair flying all over the place. We all know that if a lady doesn’t like how her hair looks, she won’t like the photograph. Weather-wise, wind and rain are probably the two biggest challenges a photographer can face on a wedding day. Thankfully we only had one of these two elements on Saturday and we had an amazing hair stylist who made sure everyone had an extra amount of hairspray to get us through the day! Y’all, I have never shot in such strong winds before! I was super thankful we were in town and not right on the bay! Can you imagine?!
Cara and Austin welcomed their beautiful daughter, Grace, into the world a few months ago. Even though we carefully planned the wedding day schedule to work around Grace’s nap and feeding times, there is still an element of unknown with such a young baby. I still can’t believe that Grace was so alert and ready right on time for portraits! She was so adorable in her little dress! Just wait until you see how she came down the aisle during the ceremony! It was one of my favorite moments of the day!
A Bragg-Mitchell Mansion Reception
The Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is one of my favorite wedding venues in Mobile. It truly is spectacular in the spring and the azaleas were just at the beginning of their bloom time the day of the wedding. Cara and Austin chose a clear tent for their reception, which was wonderful because you could still see the surrounding scenery at the venue through the tent! We can’t often have the clear tents during the hot months because we’ll roast in them, but they’re perfect for spring weddings!
Just as we hit Golden Hour the strong wind gusts died down. I knew Cara and Austin were ready to enjoy their reception, but I would have felt like a terrible photographer if I didn’t at least let them know the light was dreamy. To my delight, Cara and Austin were game for a few “Just Married” portraits during this time. It worked out perfectly because most guests were in line for dinner and we were able to squeeze in a few shots super fast while the band was on break. Y’all the light was dreamtastic!
Dancing the night away under the canopy of oak trees at the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion is a great way to wrap up a beautiful and fun wedding day. Cheers to the newly Mr. and Mrs. Green!
My awesome second photographer, Regina, captured many of the beautiful reception details while I was capturing portraits! I just can’t get enough of this clear tent from SOHO!
It’s always a treat when Melissa Munger is on a wedding! Her live paintings are amazing!!!
