A Blush + Navy Outdoor Spring Wedding

It rained the day of Sarah and Mason’s engagement session. The storm clouds literally chased us into the Page & Palette bookstore in Fairhope, Ala. We grabbed some drinks and just had a good chat. I love how easy it is to talk to these two. I love that they’re high school sweethearts and that they laugh easily together. It felt like we’d been friends forever by the time the storm clouds cleared up. If a couple can embrace the fun of an engagement session in the rain, then you know the wedding day is going to be amazing.

For the second week in a row, I found myself driving up to Kalioka Stables last Saturday. All my Kalioka brides seem to know each other, which is so much fun! I got to meet Sarah’s mom and sister prior to the wedding day too, so it felt like I was one of the family right off the bat. One of my favorite parts of the day was hearing the toasts at the reception. I think toasts are a bit of an art form. The perfect toast tugs at all of the emotions. It will make you laugh and cry. The toasts given for Sarah and Mason definitely fit the bill of perfection. Everyone roared with laughter when Sarah’s dad shared the story of the first time he met Mason. One minute later we all had tears in our eyes as he talked about how proud he was of his girl. The tears were also flowing when Mason’s dad shared about the conversation he had with Mason when he chose to go to college at South Alabama over Auburn. He knew then that Sarah was the one.

A Special First Look

Sarah and Mason shared a First Look prior to their ceremony, but wanted the moment to feel very private. Although First Looks usually do take place in a private area, I’m usually close by documenting the groom’s reaction. Sarah and Mason wanted their First Look to be extra private. They wanted to share their letters and exchange gifts without myself or the videographers being in earshot. I’m a private person too, so I completely understood.

I LOVE how this plan for the First Look worked out! Sarah and Mason shared their First Look at the ceremony site. The videographers and I were far enough away (using our zoom lenses!) to capture the moment. I told Mason beforehand that he needed to give me a big wave when they were ready for portraits because we literally couldn’t hear anything that was being said. I love that we were still able to document them seeing each other for the first time and exchanging letters, while maintaining the privacy they wanted.

A Joyful Bridal Party

I wasn’t one bit surprised that Sarah and Mason had such a sweet bridal party. When Sarah’s bridesmaids saw her in her gown for the first time, they burst into tears. Mason’s groomsmen were on hand to help in every way they could, while keeping the laughter going. They also got the reception going with their dance moves! Sarah and Mason, thank you so much for having me be part of your special day. It was a joy being your wedding photographer!

I adore hydrangeas! I love that Sarah chose these gorgeous white ones for her bridesmaid bouquets! They were perfectly dreamy and perfectly southern!
