A Midtown Mobile Engagement Session
I love when I’m able to do a session at a location I haven’t been to in a while. Yes, I have a lot of favorite locations that I shoot at frequently, but there is something about shooting at a location you haven’t been to in a while that feels brand new. It makes you see things with new eyes, even if you also track down your tried and true spots!
The last time I shot on this beautiful street in midtown Mobile, it was for a maternity session for my cousin and his wife! They have since had both the baby boy they were expecting in those photos and a little girl. Needless to say, it had been a while since I’d gotten to shoot in this neighborhood! I knew Jacki wanted to include their dog in some of their engagement portraits. I also knew the street they lived on was lined with beautiful oak trees. So I suggested that we start the shoot there before heading to a nearby park. Jacki and Chase loved the idea and it worked out beautifully! This street is seriously magical!
As we were meandering along the sidewalk, I recalled a spot down the street that had what I consider to be the most perfect tree for portraits. It is perfectly situated to let it some glowy light through it’s big leaves. I was so glad I sought out this tree again because it was in gorgeous Golden Hour light once again! I’m sure Jacki and Chase thought I was crazy when I literally clapped my hands upon finding the tree again…but, y’all, when the light is good I just can’t contain my excitement!!!
Dresses with Movement
After a quick wardrobe change, we headed to a nearby park for the second half of the session. I love this park, but it is one of those locations that I forget about. In fact, I think I’ve only shot there once before, which seems so crazy since the light there was gorgeous!
Both of the dresses Jacki wore for her engagement session were beautiful, but her second dress (which was her favorite) was a show stopper! I LOVE dresses that have movement to them because they photograph so well on camera. They also help create a more romantic look to the portraits because they will float in the breeze. I had so many people message me on social media asking where this dress came from after I shared sneak peeks from this session. Jacki kindly shared the information with me, which I’ve included at the bottom of this post.
I had so much fun working with Jacki and Chase. During the shoot we found out that we have several mutual acquaintances. It once again proved that Mobile is the biggest small town imaginable. Chase and I are both graduates of McGill-Toolen Catholic and since the park was right across the street from the legendary canon that is tied to the Murphy/McGill football rivalry, we of course had to chat about some of our favorite McT memories!
Jacki and Chase, thank you for such a fun session! I can’t wait to work with you again on your wedding day!
Jacki’s dress is by Zimmerman. It is currently available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Matches Fashion.
