Emily and my sister, Katherine, have been friends since they met at McGill-Toolen Catholic. They both headed off to the University of Alabama after high school and were roommates for a few years post college. Emily and her brother are how my sister met her now husband! Needless to say, at this point, Emily feels like an extension of our family! She was by my sister’s side on her wedding day and this coming April my sister will get to return the favor as one of Emily’s bridesmaids. Fun fact, this will be my first wedding to photograph as the lead photographer where my sister is in the wedding party!
I was so excited to meet up with Emily and her sweet fiance, Brett, for engagement photos over the holiday season. We originally scheduled this session for the week prior to Christmas, but the weather was terrible on our original date. We rescheduled for the Monday after Christmas and it turned out to be the best decision ever! The weather was mild and we had super dreamy Golden Hour light. It was worth it to hit pause on my Christmas vacation to hang out with these two. They are so much fun and so at ease in front of the camera.
Emily and Brett wanted to include their dogs in a few photos, so we planned to start the session with their pups so that her mom could take them home afterwards. Thanks to Emily’s mom helping get the pups attention, I was able to get a photo with all of them looking at the camera, which is no easy feat! It turned out to be one of my favorite photos from the shoot!
When Brett proposed to Emily, he gave her a vintage ring that has been in his family for many years. Purchased by his grandfather for his grandmother, the ring is truly a treasured family heirloom. I can’t wait to photograph it along with Emily’s other bridal details on her wedding day. I love little details that have stories tied to them!
