 A Downtown Mobile Engagement Session

Even though the sun was out, it was still quite cold in Bienville Square. It was my second day in a row doing an engagement session in the freezing cold, but I didn’t mind one bit because I had such sweet couples to photograph on both days! Jessica was a bridesmaid in one of my favorite weddings from a few years ago! I love when I get to work with a bride who has been in a prior year wedding of mine. I feel like we already sort of know each other even though we only were around each other for one day.

During the consultation call, Jessica told me that Harry completely surprised her when he proposed. Even though they had talked about marriage, she wasn’t one bit suspicious when they went for a walk on the beach at Dauphin Island. It was such a normal thing for them to do when they visited Jessica’s parents home there, so she thought nothing was out of the ordinary. When they reached the end of the beach, Harry got down on one knee and proposed! Jessica said she loved that it was just the two of them in that moment. Afterwards, they headed back to the house to celebrate with Jessica’s family. I just love a good proposal story, don’t you?!

A Mobile Treasure

The wind was fierce downtown during this session, so after spending a little time in Bienville Square, I suggested we take some time to warm up inside the Battle House Hotel since it was nearby. It turned out that Jessica and Harry had just booked rooms at the hotel for their wedding weekend, but Harry hadn’t yet seen the hotel. Harry’s reaction to seeing the inside of the historic hotel for first time reminded me how special it really is – a true Mobile treasure!

Once we were warmed up, we headed outside for more photos. I knew of an area that was typically buffered from wind and was sometimes a bit warmer due to the position of buildings. Thankfully, this spot was indeed warmer and we finished up the rest of the session feeling a bit less cold. I’m still in awe that Jessica made it through the first half of the session in a dress with no coat!
