Mobile Christian Senior Portrait Photography

Both of my grandfathers were very special to me. I always felt so lucky that I grew up living in the same town as they did. Pop, my paternal grandfather, was known for his harsh-sounding Boston accent, but his bark was worse than his bite. At heart, he was a total softie. He taught me to have a sense of humor and to know when to dish it out and when to take it. Gramps, my maternal grandfather, was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was a quiet and somewhat shy man, but if you started a conversation about music he could talk all day long. Both Pop and Gramps had hearts of gold and will always hold a special place in my heart. When Byron’s mom told me that her son’s one request for his senior portrait session was to have his grandfather come along for a portrait or two, I happily said yes because it reminded me of the close relationship I shared with my grandfathers.

Like his granddad, Byron has a love of music. He is captain of the Marching Band at Mobile Christian School and serves as a sound engineer at his church. His grandad is the music minister there. I was so excited that Byron brought along his saxophone because music is such a part of his life. It’s also perfect for his senior portraits because he will be attending Faulkner Christian University in Montgomery next fall where he’ll also be playing in the Marching Band!

Bryon also brought his car to his session! The shots where we incorporated his car turned out to be some of my favorites. Guys and cars…it’s just a must-have for the senior portrait experience. His mom even helped me out on a few of those shots to make sure we weren’t getting too much flare. Thank you for the assist in blocking a bit of sunlight, Ashley!

I feel like I’m always saying I have so many favorites from a session, but I really, really do! Enjoy this preview of Byron’s session!

I love the special connection between Byron and his grandfather. It was so special to get to capture some portraits of them together.

This shot would not have happened if Byron’s mom hadn’t mentioned she liked silhouettes. I usually take silhouette photos when the sun is higher in the sky. You need that contrast from the harsher light. It was nearly the end of the session when we started talking about silhouettes. I told Byron I wasn’t sure if it would work out due to how close it was to sunset. BUT I wasn’t going to give up without trying really hard to get one. Fortunately, it is baseball season and Spring Hill had a game the night of this shoot. As we walked around to the back of the administration building and I saw the field lights, I KNEW we had an awesome opportunity to get that shot that Byron and his mom wanted. I just love that extra bit of interest the stadium lights brought to this shot. It not only turned out to be one of my favorites of the whole shoot, it is one of my favorite shots from any senior session I’ve ever done!
