Downtown Mobile Spring Engagement
I remember a time just six short years ago when I would dream of the day where I might have a steady stream of one photoshoot per month. If I could get 12 shoots per year that would be the dream realized. During that first year in business, I had less than half a dozen paying clients. I was on my way to photograph Rachel and Joseph’s engagement session when it dawned on me that it had been over a month since I’d done my last engagement shoot, yet I’d been shooting like crazy. I’m in the thick of busy season, with a string of weddings every weekend for seven Saturdays in a row. It’s also the season for senior portrait sessions and non-wedding events. Everything happens in the spring. Keeping that busy is a good thing, but it can also keep you from realizing just how far you’ve come. Something about Wednesday’s engagement session made me pause and think. I had 18 shoots in April. That number astounds me and makes me so thankful for every single person I’ve worked with!
When Rachel and I met for her consultation, I immediately knew we were going to get along wonderfully. She is such a sweet and joyful girl! As I chatted with her and her mom that day, I found myself thinking it impossible that we hadn’t known each other before. The time flew by as we chatted. Her mom even got teary-eyed when we started talking about wedding day timelines. “It’s getting so real,” they both said. I loved seeing the bond Rachel and her mother share. A close relationship with your mother is one of the most special gifts in life and I could tell the bond between these two is strong. They also make a great wedding planning duo! Rachel says her mom is the one that is good with communication and gets things done. I love that they are so organized!
Joseph surprised Rachel with a romantic proposal under the twinkling lights of Washington Square Park. She hadn’t suspected anything was out of the ordinary because he seemed so calm. Right in the middle of the proposal two Gulf Coast Ducks tour boats drove by the park. I can just imagine the quacking that likely ensued in congratulations! Rachel said she found it hilarious and perfect. I find it so Mobile! Joseph’s next surprise was a celebratory dinner with both of their parents. How sweet is that?! I knew that he was going to be one nice guy just from hearing that story!
I was so excited that these two selected downtown Mobile for their engagement session! Downtown gives so many options for backgrounds, even when there are lots of events going on. The night of this session there was a big concert going on at the Saenger Theater, but somehow we managed to have Cathedral Square to ourselves for a few minutes. I’ve never had that happen before, even on quiet days!
Rachel and Joseph, thank you so much for such a fun session. August will be here before we know it and I’m looking forward to photographing your summer wedding!
