A Grand Hotel Point Clear Engagement
Blanche and Ethan have known each other since they were kids. They didn’t start dating until their last year of college, but they’ve been together ever since. They have been a couple for seven years and I could definitely see how well they know each other from the moment I met them in person. I barely had to guide them into poses because they were just so comfortable with each other and natural together. I loved their easy-going personalities!
I often hear from grooms that they are a bit nervous before their engagement session. I think that’s likely because they are unsure of what to expect. Even if they’ve seen my work before, I’m sure it’s hard to imagine what the session will actually be like. Ethan told me at the end of the session that he enjoyed the shoot, which totally made my day. My number one goal for engagement sessions is that they are a fun experience. My other goal is to get to know my couples ahead of wedding day so that when that big day arrives it feels more like a friend tagging along to document your special moments rather than a stranger.
A bonus for this session was getting to meet Blanche’s parents who were in town to help with wedding plans. Blanche, Ethan and I met up with them after the shoot and it was such a treat to get to know them ahead of the wedding. Blanche’s mom told me that she taught Ethan when he was in grade school. Although she never imagined he’d one day be marrying her daughter, she always thought he was a sweet boy. I just love stories like that, don’t you? I also love that Blanche’s mom and I share a love of history. The history of The Grand Hotel is one thing that we both love about the property!
Blanche fell in love with The Grand Hotel in Point Clear several years ago. She and her mom stayed at the hotel for a girls weekend and Blanche was immediately smitten. Blanche told me that she knew even back then that she wanted to have her wedding on the property one day. When Ethan proposed to her on Christmas Eve, The Grand Hotel was the first thing on her list to check availability for. It was also my first recommendation for an engagement session location since you have to be a Grand Hotel Bride, or staying on the property to shoot there.
I feel like I am always battling Mother Nature when it comes to shooting outdoors and the day of this session was no different. A huge rain storm was predicted to be on the way from the west. Blanche asked me about rescheduling and I told her we should wait and see what the day brought. I just prayed that we’d be able to get the session in before it arrived. These two drove all the way from Louisiana for the weekend so rescheduling wouldn’t have been easy. Somehow the storm clouds held off just long enough for us to get their full session in! The first rain drops from the storm started falling as I pulled onto 98 to head back to Mobile. Talk about cutting it close!
Blanche and Ethan, thank you for such a wonderful session! I’m so looking forward to your wedding this fall. It’s going to be fantastic!
This ring belonged to Blanche’s grandmother, who was also her namesake. I love that it will serve as both her something old and her something blue on her wedding day. I’m sure her grandmother will be smiling down on her as she walks down the aisle.
