A Downtown Mobile Engagement

Katie and Kendrick met at Texas A&M University. After graduation they decided to move a few states over to settle in Mobile, Alabama. Katie says they hardly knew anyone when they first moved here, but hosting a block party introduced them to all their neighbors. Two years later, they are loving life in our port city and are planning their wedding for this fall. I love that they wanted to do their portrait session in downtown Mobile. It felt like such a celebration of them adopting this place as their new home.

I am always finding new portrait locations in downtown Mobile and this session led us to discovering some hidden gems! I always find it to be a good idea to take a different route to a favorite location because this is how I find inspiration. I’m lucky that I have so many clients who are willing to trust me in exploring! When we first met downtown, Katie remarked that she loves the old iron fencing that is in front of many buildings in the historic district. As I looked across the street to where she was pointing, I decided to abandon my initial “shoot plan” and head towards the lovely building across the street from where we parked.

The next thing I knew, some golden light caught my attention. I asked Katie and Kendrick if they were up for a walk. To my delight, they happily agreed! As we meandered down the sidewalk, my mind suddenly went into overdrive. There were so many amazing portrait locations all within one block! Such. A. Dream! Katie got just as excited about the discovery as I did, which I absolutely loved.

After we finished exploring downtown, we hopped in the car and headed to Washington Square. Katie wanted to showcase her Texas roots in her portraits, so she donned a pair of cowgirl boots with her second outfit, which worked perfectly with the natural setting at the park. Once again, I used up every once of light. I can’t wait to work with these two again in October! Enjoy some of my favorites from their engagement session!

This spot was a dream! I could have stayed here the whole session!

One of my favorites from the entire session! Just look at that dreamy light!!!
