A Grand Hotel Point Clear Engagement

Caylee and Will wanted to plan a destination wedding and when they were considering locations, the Point Clear area stood out! They have relatives that live nearby and were familiar with the low-key vibe of the Mobile Bay area. They knew it would be perfect for an intimate celebration with their families and closest friends.

Caylee and Will traveled down from Huntsville to meet with several vendors ahead of their wedding next summer and the timing worked perfectly for us to do their engagement session. With all the rain we’ve had in the last few weeks, it was miraculous that we got this session in as planned!

Contrary to popular belief, overcast skies are not the end of the world when it comes to outdoor, natural light portraits. In fact, the cloud cover softening the sun meant we could shoot at different angles in some of my favorite locations at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear, where Caylee and Will were staying for the weekend. It also meant it wasn’t quite as hot as it would have been if the sun was out!

Will proposed to Caylee at the beach, so I loved that we incorporated a bit of the water into their engagement portraits. I laughed when Caylee told me that Will caught her off guard and was able to surprise her with his proposal because he popped the question at sunrise. Caylee explained that while Will is a morning person and loves to get up early, she is decidedly not a morning person. This meant she didn’t have time to get suspicious before the moment actually happened! I love that she didn’t see the moment coming and that Will was able to pull of the surprise!
