A Downtown Mobile Engagement Session

Most of my portrait photography utilizes natural light and this session certainly had a lot of golden hour glow. But, when we were planning this session, Caitlyn asked if we could take a few photos inside the Haberdasher in downtown Mobile. I knew I was going to have fun creating something that looked distinctly different from most of my engagement portrait work. These photos turned out to be some of my favorites from the shoot because they connect to a place that is special to Caitlyn and Thomas!
I have taken photos of several cocktails at the Hab in the past, but this was my first time to photograph a couple in the space! Ironically, Caitlyn told me a story that involved her, Thomas and one of my other couples! Months ago, they shared a table with another young couple on a crowded night at their favorite spot downtown. Both connected over their shared love of the Hab and the fact that they were both planning weddings.
I didn’t find out until after Kathryn and Jeff’s wedding that they were the other couple! Caitlyn spotted them on my blog and shared the story with me. Talk about a small world!
Almost Cousins
I have known Caitlyn her entire life. She and I are “almost cousins” – meaning we share cousins via marriage, but are not directly related. However, she is my sister’s same age and we grew up attending many of the same family events. About a year ago I met Thomas at our annual blessing of the pets event at church. I remember thinking to myself at that time, I wonder if they will get married.
Fast forward to a few months ago when I received a text from Caitlyn with a series of photos. One photo was a close up of an engagement ring! They had been at breakfast with their parents and at the end Thomas set a ring box on the table and asked Caitlyn to marry him. The photos showed pure joy! A few minutes after I replied she said, “One day I’ll be asking for your calendar!” And here we are!
Caitlyn and Thomas, thank you for being amazing and for being so much fun to photograph! Wedding day is going to be a dream! Also, thank you to the awesome staff at the Hab for letting us slip in early and have the place to ourselves for some portraits!
